How Rapid Prototyping company helps in Mechanical product development?

Rapid Prototyping is an oft-used technique in building prototypes in small numbers for mechanical systems, assemblies and the likes.

Rapid Prototyping as a method employed to build prototypes for testing and later production, began in the late 80s. Since then, quite a lot of different types of prototyping have emerged, but SLA Prototype Development remains the most sought-after even after decades of prototyping.

Why Rapid Prototyping?

To begin understanding RP, one has to first understand why RP is used.

In a production line-up, it is necessary to first test out the components before they are assembled. Even for small components, testing needs to be perfectly done.

Designing each and every component and then prototyping them in the traditional method involves a lot of work.

Rapid Prototyping involves the use of a completely or partially - automated machine which takes up the CAD 3D Design and converts that into the real prototype.

This is sometimes done in large numbers too, when the component is small and the possibilities of losing accuracy are less. This is where our experts can help you.

Stereolithography prototyping (or SLA Prototype Development) is the oldest and most widely used method of Rapid Prototyping to-date.

In SLA Prototype Development, laser beams and light-sensitive liquid polymers are used to craft the tool or component via computer-controlled mechanical instruments.

The 3D CAD Design is loaded onto the system, specific commands given and the system automatically produces the component out of the source material.

Since SLA prototype development is an old-school art, it has been beset with some problems of its own. For instance, it does not product a completely cured product or prototype – you will need to cure / post-cure the product.

Since there are no milling steps involved, accuracy in z may suffer too. And of course, since the parts are very brittle, support structures are often required.

Yet, despite all these shortcomings, SLA prototype development is very cost-effective and cheap compared to all other methods of prototyping. You must insist your prototype development company to lower physical testing and hence product turnaround time.
